Upgrading innovation and handling to enhance water security
Mr. Noureddine Ouadah, Minister of the Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-Enterprises, together with Mr. Taha Derbal, Minister of Water Resources, chaired a working session on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Water Resources. The meeting was dedicated to exploring ways to involve micro-enterprises and startups in the construction and modernization of irrigation infrastructure, as well as in proposing technological solutions aimed at rationalizing water consumption.
The meeting, which was attended by senior officials from both ministries along with several representatives of startups and micro-enterprises active in the sector, focused on examining local capabilities in manufacturing desalination system components and wastewater treatment technologies. The objective is to increase national production capacity and further reduce reliance on imports. The session also reviewed a range of facilitation measures available to public institutions, including subcontracting and open innovation mechanisms.
During the meeting, both parties agreed to enable these enterprises to engage more closely with entities and institutions affiliated with the water resources sector in order to better identify their needs.
The two ministers also emphasized the importance of continuing coordinated efforts to contribute effectively to achieving water security through Algerian expertise and capabilities.
